The Assayer’s Nativity is the first in a line of special creations, bringing the birth of the Savior in a repurposed Assayer’s Box. The figures used in this design are from the Immanuel Collection by Original Heide of Val Gardena, Italy. In the back of the case is an original painting of a renaissance night’s sky. Assayer’s boxes have their roots in the turn of the century as traveling scales used by assayers and apothecaries to measure precious metals and pharmaceuticals. This Nativity is part of the permanent collection of Glencairn Museum and is often displayed during their annual World Nativities Exposition.
